Fear no evil... but don't be stupid
Thursday, December 31, 2009 Occassionaly, someone will ask me why I consistently criticize our president for his policies and the philosophies that spawn them. The simple reason is that I believe their philosophies, and subsequent policies, are dangerous and breed courage in our enemies, both foreign and domestic.
The American people are getting more and more frustrated with the decisions (or lack of decisions) that the president, his staff, and Congress are making. They are not listening; indeed, they are implementing policies that are diametrically opposed to the will of the people and the long history of the United States.
The current security debacle is a classic example. Barack Obama was never qualified to be president (or commander and chief) of these United States and each day it's painfully apparent his lack of experience flows through every decision that he's involved in. For example, Janet Napolitano was never qualified to head Homeland Security, should never have been placed in that position, and should be fired. (She may be fired soon.) But, this begs the question: why should we have any confidence that her replacement will be any more qualified if the president and his advisors are involved in choosing her replacement?
I don't fear evil but I do call it for what it is: evil. Our president and his head of Homeland Security won't use the word terrorist or terrorism. They view terrorist acts as crimes. Their philosophy is driving our security policies and it's placed the citizens of our nation, and our military, in danger.
I don't fear traveling on airplanes, domestic or international, but I am keenly aware of everything going on around me. I don't put my life in the hands of anyone naively; I take responsibility for my safety. But, isn't it reasonable that security measures should be in place to protect me where I cannot protect myself? At present, I don't trust that this is the case. I, and I pray my fellow travelers, will need to be even more vigilant on future trips.
I am going to Nigeria in February and will be going through Amsterdam. This is my second trip to Nigeria and I've been through the Amsterdam airport at least sixteen times. As with every time I travel I am not afraid, and I will not be afraid. Even so, I'm not stupid, either. Because my government, the Nigerian government, and apparently the security staff in Amsterdam cannot be trusted I have to ultimately put my life (as always) in God's hands and trust Him for supernatural insight. If He tells me not to board a plane, get on a bus, accept a certain taxi, or if He gives me insight on the intentions of a certain person I will act on it. I will obey Him, no matter how it affects my travel plans.
Anyone who knows me knows that I stress listening to the Lord. My point is that you and I have an ever increasing need to hear that "still, small, voice" and quickly obey it. The world is not safe, and due to the politically correct buffoons running things we are virtually left to that "voice". Ultimately, He is the only One we can trust.
I do pray that the agencies tasked with keeping the traveling public safe will finally be staffed with reliable, trained and experienced people. In the mean time be sober, be vigilant, keep your eyes wide open and your spiritual ears tuned to the voice of the Holy Spirit, and obey Him.
